Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa, Friday March 7 – Sunday March 9, 2025
Recent work has shown how new datasets and digital tools can shape our understanding of the past. Some of these tools include machine learning, text-to-data methods, and geographic mapping. The workshop will bring together economic historians and scholars who are based at liberal arts colleges to share new data or state-of-the-art analytical methods in research and teaching. We welcome paper submissions from scholars in economics, history, political science, statistics and other relevant departments. We encourage and will prioritize proposals that use new data, techniques, and digital tools in economic history. Proposed papers on all areas of economic history are also welcome.
The workshop will open with a dinner on the evening of March 7th. Paper sessions will take place on March 8th and the morning of March 9th. We will have a conference dinner for attendees with a keynote by Shari Eli (University of Toronto) on March 8th.
If you are interested in presenting a paper, please submit a title and extended abstract (~500 words) to Jenny Bourne (jbourne@carleton.edu) no later than Friday November 22nd. If you are interested in attending the workshop, please let us know no later than Friday November 22nd. Thanks to generous funding from AALAC, we expect to cover accommodation for 2 nights, meals during the conference, and up to $400 in travel expenses for presenters and participants from AALAC member institutions.
