Postdoc in Economic History, University of Siena (deadline 2 aprile 2024)

The Department of Economics and Statistics at the University of Siena is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in Economic History starting on May 1st, 2024. The length of employment is 18 months. The deadline for submitting applications is April 2nd, 2024.

The position is opened in the framework of a PRIN project titled “Tracing the roots of human capital inequality in early-modern Italy, 17th-19th centuries (TRACIN)”.

The researcher is expected to work on the construction of a new spatial and micro dataset regarding the location and activity of arts and crafts (guilds) and their relationship with the development and diffusion of vocational technical education (VTE), as well as other aspects of Italy’s spatial and regional development. Candidates should be proficient in data analysis, (via e.g. Stata), spatial econometrics, and GIS. Knowledge of Italian is an asset, but is not a strict requisite.

The researcher is expected to be based in Siena for most of the employment period. We offer a competitive salary (depending on the personal situation, about 1800/1900 euros per month, net) and a dynamic research environment in a multidisciplinary department with a relatively large group of economic historians, as well as economists and statisticians.
