Lecturer in Economic History, University of Edinburgh (deadline 19 gennaio 2024)

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed-term: from 1 August 2024 to 31 December 2026

We are looking for a Lecturer in Economic History.

The Opportunity:

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh is pleased to invite applications for a fixed term Lectureship in Economic History. The position arises from the award of a three-year fellowship to a colleague in this field. Applications are welcome from specialists in Economic History with expertise in any period from 1750 to the present, and any part of the world. We are particularly seeking a colleague who will complement existing strengths, and thus applicants with expertise in South Asian history, US history and European (non-Anglophone) history are particularly welcome. 

 The appointed colleague will be part of a team teaching a second-year course The Global Economy since 1750. They will also offer specialist courses at Honours and MSc level, and contribute to other team-taught courses. They will be expected to undertake research and participate in the research culture in social and economic history at the University of Edinburgh.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • A PhD in a relevant field.
  • Portfolio of excellent research in any aspect of economic history since 1750, including in the form of recent or forthcoming publications, commensurate with career stage.
  • Evidence of experience in teaching, indicative of commitment to and potential for excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in economic history since 1750.
  • Vision of how to further develop an inclusive curriculum in economic history, relevant and sensitive to contemporary questions and debates.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
