The Department of Economics within Trinity College Dublin’s (TCD) School of Social Sciences & Philosophy seeks to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Fellow in Economic History. The Research Fellow will work at the Department, as a part of the Government of Ireland-funded cross-border Centre for Economics, Policy and History (CEPH). The Research Fellow will be active in assisting the delivery of the CEPH’s core objectives as well as their own research programme.

Economics is a member of the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, one of 24 Schools within Trinity College. The Department’s principal research clusters include development economics, in particular the Trinity Impact Evaluation Unit (TIME), international macroeconomics (IM-TCD) and economic history (CEPH). Ranked 1st in Ireland QS Subject Ranking, 2022, the Department has been in existence since 1832. Recognised internationally for its research expertise, particularly in applied economics, the Department is committed to delivering high-quality teaching and providing world-class postgraduate programmes.

The successful applicant will advance their research agenda as part of an exciting new Centre, with five PIs in two institutions, Trinity College Dublin and Queen’s University Belfast, as well as a rich network of collaborators in economics, history and economic history across a variety of institutions on the island of Ireland and beyond. The Research Fellow will be an active and integral member of CEPH and the Department and will contribute to CEPH’s work programme. This includes, for example, assisting the PIs in building a compendium of data series relating to Ireland’s economic development over time, but also in other CEPH activities in collaboration with CEPH’s executive committee, in particular Prof. Gaia Narciso, Prof. Ronan Lyons and Prof. Marvin Suesse.
