CfP: UCLouvain FRESH Workshop 2024 “Institutions, human capital, and long-term development: lessons from pre-modern Europe” (deadline 31 gennaio 2024)

On 24 and 25 June 2024, LIDAM at UCLouvain will host a FRESH workshop on ‘Institutions, human capital, and long-term development: lessons from pre-modern Europe’.

The purpose is to create the opportunity for graduate students and early-stage researchers to present and discuss their work in an environment especially focused on constructive feedback and support. The keynote speakers for this meeting will be Joel Mokyr, Professor of Economics and History at Northwestern University, and Nico Voigtländer, Professor of Economics at UCLA Anderson.

The organizers strive to accommodate around 20 speakers. Accepted papers will receive 30 minutes each (approx. 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion). Lunch and dinner will be provided by the local hosts but invited speakers should cover travel and hotel accommodation themselves. Participants are expected to attend the whole workshop.

Paper submission:
Researchers interested in presenting should send an abstract of max. 500 words and/or a full paper, as well as a brief (1-2 page) CV to FreshLouvain2024@gmail.com in one single pdf file. Early career scholars and researchers from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in academia are especially encouraged to apply.

Important deadlines:
31 January 2024: Deadline for submissions
14 February 2024: Presenters will be notified of acceptance
24-25 June 2024: Workshop at UCLouvain, Belgium

This meeting is organized by David de la Croix (LIDAM, UCLouvain) and Paula Gobbi (ECARES, ULB) in association with the Frontier Research in Economic and Social History series (FRESH-organizer Sandra de Pleijt).
